“These artists are obsessed with returning, with repetition, like machines and like creatures rules by the contradictory laws of eros. In each instance they return to a particular gesture, working over the permutations of materials, scale, color, and texture, repeating the gesture as a way of making a thing that is as much about repetition as it is about anything else. These gestures and series generate scatters, dispersed fields of aesthetic, physical, and psychic apprehension that are similar to the endless repetitions of the ego’s search for pleasure and the body’s experience of it.”
